The XXI Children’s Arts Contest “The Spirit of Hellas is among Us”

The Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Odessa together with the Panagiotis Giannakos Cultural Foundation (Greece) and XOTARIS Gallery (Crete, Greece) is announcing the 21st Children’s Contest for the best work in painting and drawing “The Spirit of Hellas is among Us” on the topic of the Labors of Heracles(open from November 2015 till March 2016).

Contest’s topic: Labors of Heracles
The works must represent the artist’s personal perception of contents of the Ancient Greek myths and legends about one of the most popular ancient heroes, who made 12 famous labors as well as took part in the initial stage of the voyage of Argonauts, in hunting the Calydonian Boar, the battle of the Olympian gods with the Giants (known as Gigantomachy) and made many other labors.

Technique:
There are no specific requirements as to techniques and materials to be used. We accept various kinds of arts: paintings, etchings, graphics, bookplates, collages and any other work of a chil’s inspiration.

Dimensions: no more than ½ of А-1.
The works must be signed on the back side only and contain indications of the title, the artist’s name, age, address, telephone number, name of the mentor and the information as to in which contests and when the contestant won prizes before.

Eligible age of contestants: 6 to 15 y.o.

Submission of works: From March 10 to March 16, 2015 at the Branch of the HFC (20 Krasny Provulok, 65026, Odessa)
The Jury is composed of renowned painters, graphic artists, art teachers and the staff of the Branch of the HFC.
Three main prizes and diplomas will be granted for first, second and third places in the contest. The grantees of the first three prizes in the age category from 9 to 12 will go a on 10-day educational trip in the island of Crete.

Six honorable mention prizes with diplomas will also be granted for:
ideas
– imagination
– originality
– expressiveness
– technique
– active participation in contests
One prize and a diploma will be granted to a group, an organization or a mentor for the collection of works presented to the contest.
Diplomas and remembrances will be given to the 5-6-year old artists whose works are rated the best.

The prize presentation ceremony will take place at the Branch of the HFC onMarch 24, 2016

On March 24, 2016 inauguration of exhibition of the best works presented for the contest will also take place at the Branch of the HFC (20 Krasny Provulok)

The catalogue of the best works will be published.
Note: The works submitted for the contest will not be returned. No complaints as to decisions made by the jury will be accepted. Some books related to the subject of the contest are available at the library of the Branch of the HFC.For more information:
