February 15, 2018 at 16:00 the HFC Branch will host a lecture The “Lipoveni” Old Believers of the Danube Region in European Perspectives by Dr. Camille Breiling (University of Vienna, Austria) and Dr. Alexander Prigarin (Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University, Ukraine).
The lecture will cover the expressive culture and original history of one of the ethno-confessional groups in the borderlands of Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria known as the “Lipoveni” Old Believers. Drawing from a wide range of sources, including findings from a recent fieldwork research, a number of aspects of the emergence and life of the Russian Old Believers will be comprehensively demonstrated. A particular attention will be paid to the potential of this group in the context of current civil developments and academic interests.
The lecture shall be of interest for humanitarian workers and everyone who is interested in the regional history.
