The impressions about the concert “Greek traditional dances and songs” were shared by retired people registered at the Communal organization “Territorial center of social services” in Primorsky District of Odessa, who attend the Third Age University. At the invitation of the Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, they visited the performance of the Ensemble of Traditional Greek Dances and enjoyed the opportunity to get acquainted with the Greek culture. The concert featured 20 dances from the regions of the Peloponnese, Epirus, Macedonia, Cyclades and Crete, and a potpourri from various Greek dances. During the concert, traditional songs of Greece were performed by the soloist of the Odessa Regional Philharmonic, the laureate of international competitions Aglaya Polichronidi.
Valentina Bogach: “I liked the concert. We follow the performances of the Ensemble and see its constantly growing. I am glad that people of different ages dance there. Greek dances are special: they show fighting, fishing, carnival, and wedding themes. The Greeks are open and sociable. Their mood is transmitted in their dances. There are also love dances which do not show alienation and problems of mutual understanding between the sexes”.
Elena Dyakova: “The diversity of the culture of Greece surprises, pleases and offers to representatives of other ethnic groups the opportunity to enjoy the energy of the sun, love and joy. Dances from different regions of Greece, performed in the concert, reflect the characteristics of these regions, and each in its own way is fine and interesting. The magnificence of the costumes shows a flower extravaganza. The plasticity of hands and the special dance pattern of legs are fascinating. The trepid attitude of the Greeks to their culture is worthy of respect. Do open the concert program – “Tsakonikos – this dance is included in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage and is performed in the concert program in celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018”.
