Exhibition “Spirit and Hatch” (Graphics and Painting)

Мартынюк1

May 25 (Friday) at 15:00 the BHFC will host the opening of the exhibition of works by Natalia Martynyuk (a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and a senior teacher at the M.B. Grekov Odessa College of Arts) and her students of the Department of Painting: Victoria Abramova, Anna Brilliantova, Anastasia Goncharenko, Milena Minzhiner.

The opening of the exhibition will feature the presentation of the book “Spirit and Hatch” by Olga Tarasenko (PhD in Art History, Professor of the Ushinsky South Ukrainian Pedagogical University) and the Conference “Classical Heritage of Greece in Contemporary Art”.

The conference will be attended by members of the Union of Artists of Ukraine, teachers of art, post-graduate students, students of the Department of Art and Graphics of the Ushinsky South Ukrainian Pedagogical University, the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Odessa State Academy of Construction and Architecture and the M.B. Grekov Odessa College of Arts as well as teachers of children’s art schools.

N. Martyniuk studied at the Department of the M.B. Grekov Odessa College of Arts. In 1973, she graduated from the V. I. Mukhina Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry. Since 1982, she has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (Odessa regional organization). For over 40 years, Natalia Martynyuk has been a senior teacher at the M.B. Grekov Odessa College of Arts.

The main theme of N. Martynyuk’s works is “A WOMAN. FLOWERS AND HERBS”. Her poetic female characters are akin to the ancient mythological images of Demeter, Persephone, and Chlorides-Flora, which symbolized the nascent, falling asleep in winter and awakening in spring nature. Like Flora, they are shown with flowers.

In the teaching her students the complex laws of compositions, N. Martynyuk relies on the heritage of the classical art of ancient Greece, and this exhibition is a confirmation of the efficiency of her creative method.

The event is curated by Olga Tarasenko (PhD in Art History, Professor of the Ushinsky South Ukrainian Pedagogical University).
