Τhe exhibition presents 15 monuments of Thessaloniki (Greece), which are listed in the World Heritage Monuments of UNESCO. The opening is on Thursday, September 8 in Odessa Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture. Duration: October 10, 2011. The aim of the exhibition is to introduce to the Ukrainian audience:
– The monuments of the early Christian period (4th-6th centuries) (Rotunda, Virgin Acheiropoiitos, St. Demetrios, Monastery Latomos (St. David))
– The monuments of the Middle-Ages and Mid-Byzantine period (7th-13th centuries) (Hagia Sophia, Chalkeon Virgin, Byzantine Baths)
– The monuments of the late Byzantine period (1204 -1453) (Saint Panteleimon, Holy Apostles, St. Nicholas the Orphan, St. Catherine, Church of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ, Monastery Vlatadon, Prophet Elias, the City Walls)
After Odessa the exhibition will be presented by HFC in other cities of Ukraine, in an effort to promote Thessaloniki’s history and to support its cultural tourism, which has been developed rapidly in recent years. Through the exhibition the Branch of the HFC contributes to the general commemoration of the 100 years from Thessaloniki’s liberation that will be celebrated in 2012.
