Program of Celebration of Greek National Holiday – the Independence Day

On March 25, 2016 we celebrate the 195th anniversary of the onset of the struggle of Greeks against Ottomans for the independence of their country, for their national revival. The 25th of March became a national holiday in Greece.
This year the holiday also concurs with the Orthodox Christian holiday of the Annunciation of the Mother of God.

Program of celebration of the National Independence Day in Odessa:

What: Opening of the exhibition “Ode to the Sea” developed by students from the Department of Fine Arts at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki under the direction of their teachers Manolis Yannadakis and Georgos Tsakiris inspired by projects “OLKAS” and “LIMEN” implemented by the European Center for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (EKBMM). The exhibition also features artifacts from Piraeus Archaeological Museum (Greece) and some antiquities from Odessa Archaeological Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The teachers from Greece will participate in the opening ceremony. The music composition “Ode to the Sea” will be performed by the laureate of international music contests, the soloist of Odessa Regional Philharmonic Society Tatiana Kravchenko.

What: Traditional ritual in commemoration of “Philiki Eteria”, flower-laying at the monument to the founders of the society.

What: Opening of the exhibition of the best works and awarding the winners of the XXI Children Arts Contest “The Spirit of Hellas Is Among Us” at the theme “The Labors of Heracles” held in collaboration with Panagiotis Giannakos Cultural Foundation. The director of the Foundation Christos Giannakos (Greece) will take part in the opening ceremony.
