As a part of events dedicated to the Year of Aristotle, on Thursday, April 21 at 16:00 the Branch of the HFC will host two lectures by the staff of the Department of Biology of Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University: “Zoology of Aristotle” (Prof. V.P. Stoylovskiy) and “Ideas of Aristotle in the Contemporary Biology” (Assoc. Prof. V.V. Nemertsalov).
The attendees will learn what in our region and the city is connected with the name of the Philosopher, the founder of classical (formal) logic, the father of biology in general and zoology in particular; how modern scholars regard works, statements and aphorisms of Stagirite; and what the “History of Animals” and the “Toy Story” have in common. We will trace how the ideas and concepts of Aristotle have developed and spread around and how they have influenced our daily life. You will find out what animal and plant names have preserved memories of this great man. You will also have an opportunity to ask any question of your interest in fields of contemporary biology and biotechnology.
