Exhibition of painting and photography “Athens – Piraeus – Odessa”

Выставка 6 марта 2018

Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 16:00 the HFC Branch will host the opening of the exhibition of painting and photography “Athens – Piraeus – Odessa” dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the twinning of Odessa and Piraeus.

Winter in Athens is like spring in Odessa – light and inspiring, and giving hope.

This February (from 12 to 20.02.2018), three artists from Odessa, Svetlana Mikhalevich, Yana Barabash and Mariana Bryukhanova, made a creative trip to Athens and Piraeus. Their plain air resulted in an exhibition project dedicated to the friendship of our cities: Odessa, Piraeus and Athens.

The streets and cafes of Athens, the magnificent Acropolis and the fishing boats Piraeus side by side with the familiar streets of Odessa and the sea will open their doors for you at the Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture on March 6 at 16.00. The exhibition includes over 30 artworks executed in the techniques of oil and watercolor painting.

The artists are fond of travels and plein air. Their travel bags are always full of colors, canvases, paper and brushes. Mariana Bryukhanova and Svetlana Mikhalevich do watercolors and oil paintings in an impressionistic manner. They have participated in international watercolor festivals and presented personal and group exhibitions in their hometown. In 2017, in the historic center of Odessa (Passage) they opened their own workshop gallery “202”, in which they host exhibitions and artistic gatherings.

Yana Barabash is a follower of the South Russian school of painting. She does oil painting in a realistic manner. The artist paints portraits and compositions with people, which she has repeatedly exhibited in galleries and museums of Odessa and Kyiv.

During their trip, the artists were accompanied by photographer Alexey Mikhalevich. In his photographs, you will see Athens in winter as well as how the artworks were created.

Alexei Mikhalevich focuses on reportage photography and portraits. He has participated in international plein airs. ”
