On March 25, 2019 at 14:30, the BHFC will be opening of the exhibition of Greek engravings from the collection of Christos and Polly Kolliali “Greece, the land of heroes” held in celebration of the Greek Independence Day.
The collection of Christos and Polly Kolliali, the fruit of the their love for art and the homeland is continuing its successful journey through Greece and beyond and presenting a selection of about fifty original engravings made by famous and talented Greek artists of the twentieth century including Thassos, Vaso Katraki, N. Engonopoulos, V. Falireas, Spiros Vasiliou, G. Manousakis, G. Gurzis, G. Psychopedis, Mary Schina, M. Giannadakis, G. Velissaridis, G. Kyriakidis, P. Gravvalos, and G. Farsakidis. The engravings show scenes of heroic fighting of Greeks 1821 for liberation of the country from 400 years of Turkish rule, the labors of Greek mythological figures, as well as images of modern Greece executed in a variety of conventional etching techniques, from the traditional to the most modern ones, such as woodcutting, engraving on copper, lithography, engraving with a graver and photolithographic printing.
The exhibition also includes about fifty art books (of limited editions) with original engravings by famous Greek artists that show images inspired by ancient Greek history (Peloponnesian War, Anabasis, Holy Mount Athos), Classical Greek literature and modern Greek poetry (D. Solomos , K. Kavafy, K. Palamas) as well as presents about fifty samples of ex libris.
