The exhibition of paintings entitled “Greece through the eyes of children” is on display at the Odessa HFC Branch until the end of July. The exhibition presents works by the young artists who participated in the 14th pan-Ukrainian painting competition.
The competition is an initiative of HFC in Odessa and has been organized annually since 1996. Over these years, more than 600 children and pupils from Odessa and about 20 towns and villages in Ukraine have entered the competition. A five-member committee of distinguished painters – members of the Ukrainian Union of Painters – selected the prize-winning works and the distinctions.
The paintings, with their authentic and spontaneous expression, reveal the powerful ability of children to travel to the world of Greece – a country which most of them have never visited, but which they have imagined through the myths, history and culture they have been taught.
The first prize winners visit Greece and enjoy a stay in a summer camp. This year’s winners are three boys aged 9 to 13 years from Harkovo (1st prize), Odessa (2ndprize) and the city of Tsuguef – in Harkovo region.
