Tribute to Melina Mercouri in Odessa

The Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Odessa presents an exhibition- tribute to Greek artist and politician Melina Mercouri.

The photo exhibition entitled “I was born Greek” is organized on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of her birth. The exhibition includes 46 photos and captures moments from the artistic activity and political action of Melina Mercouri during the period of dictatorship in Greece (1967-1974), from her service as an MP and as Minister of Culture in the decades of 80 and 90.

In addition, a book exhibition about the life and work of Melina Mercouri will run in parallel to the photo exhibition. The books come from the collection of the Odessa A.M. Gorky State Scientific Library and the Branch’s Library.
The HFC in Odessa will also organize a film tribute to Melina Mercouri. The screenings include three full-length feature films and one documentary about her life and work.

The exhibition is held with the support of the Melina Mercouri Foundation, which has kindly provided the photographic material. The opening will take place in the presence of personalities from politics, sciences and culture. Students at the Modern Greek Language Department of the Institute for Social Sciences, the Odessa University, will present the biography of Melina Mercouri. In addition, the Branch’s Choir will sing songs originally performed by Melina Mercouri.
