The Consulate General of Greece in Odessa in collaboration with the Odessa Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture presents the jubilee exhibition “Marathon Battle – 2500 years” on 23rd of December, 2010 at 17:00 in the HFC Branch.
The materials of the exhibition display the documentary evidence from Georgos Domanitis’ private library and are represented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Greece.
The exhibition is consisted of two parts. Its contest proves that the victory of the Greek people in Marathon Battle became the decisive factor for the salvation of the Athens democracy and for the famous evolution of the Greek culture. This success contributed to the further destiny of Greek and World history and culture.
This milestone of the ancient Greek history inspired poets, writers and international progressive social forces in its time as well as in XVIII and XIX cent. The competition in Marathon race since 1896 in the International Olympic Games of nowadays is not only the tribute to the heroes of Marathon Battle but uppermost it is the evidence of the model of heroism, courage and the source of eternal inspiration.
First part: “Marathon Battle – the eternal model of heroism”.
Second part: “Marathon – the eternal source of inspiration”.
The exhibition will last to January 20, 2011. Entrance is free.
