Presentation of the book “The Greeks of Buyalik Maly. 200 years in Odessa Region” Vol. 3 by N. A. Kalmakan

Малый Буялык

In the premises of the Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture the presentation of the book “The Greeks of Buyalik Maly. 200 years in Odessa Region” Vol. 3 by N. A. Kalmakan will be held on October 15 at 15:00.

In the third volume, the author continues to publish previously unknown material from the history of the first foreign colony “Buyalik Maly” in Odessa region (now – it’s Sverdlovo village, Kominternovsky district). It was established at the beginning of the XIX century. For the first time the author managed to collect and publish the vocabulary in 1000 words of spoken dialect of Greek language, which was spoken by the Greek colonists of “Buyalik Maly”. And nowadays, 200 years later, it is rarely spoken by their descendants who moved to Odessa and other cities of Ukraine and the world.

The book describes the family genealogy including the problems of dating of genealogical events, related to the lack of a unified calendar.
In 2000 Nikolai Kalmakan established the Rumelian national cultural society “Buyalik Maly”. He is the author of the 3 volumes of the book “The Greeks of Buyalik Maly…” (2000, 2003, 2013).
